Ron Smith Could be heard on both CKSO AM and FM (CIGM FM) in the 1970's and early 1980's. A versatile host, Ron entertained radio audiences with contemporary music on AM and classical music on FM. He was known for his very personable and friendly manner on the airwaves fitting well into any time slot. He held various positions including Assistant Program Director, Afternoon and Morning Drives. From Sudbury, he went on to become VP and General Manager of Pelmorex Broadcasting, from 1988 to 1993.
Not only did he do it all, but he would teach it as well. Ron taught radio broadcasting at Canadore College in North Bay from the fall of 1986 through to the graduation of the Class of 1988. Ron also served as Program Coordinator at the college.
Ron grew up in Lakefield, close to Peterborough, Ontario and attended Lakefield District Secondary School. His post secondary education took him to York University - Schulich School of Business, Queen's University and Boston University.
Ron eventually left the broadcast business. From August of 1993 until well into 2011, Ron worked in Ottawa as VP of Marketing & Communications for CAA North & East Ontario. He was responsible for marketing, membership and privacy including brand management and development with strategic partners.
From July of 2011 to the present, Ron is serving as Executive Vice President Marketing and Sales for the Canadian Automobile Association (CAA) North and East Ontario. He continues to manage strategic opportunities and business projects aiding growth and revenue for CAA North & East Ontario members.
He resides with his wife Nancy in Ottawa.
