Ron Tufts

Ron Tufts - CKSORon Tufts arrived on the scene at CKSO AM in the late 1970s when the station converted to an evening and overnight country format. Ron brought previous experience as a country host. He remained at CKSO for a few years before moving on to his home area of Niagara making a stop at CHOW AM 1470.

In the early 1980s Ron and his family moved back up north for two years to work at CKAT AM in North Bay. The next stop was in Kingston to do mornings at CKWS but Telemedia enticed Ron to return to the Gateway of the North where he programed CFCH in North Bay for three years. The company then sent him to Sault Ste. Marine when it purchased CFNY AM and CHAS FM. Telemedia needed Ron next in Orillia where he remained for five years.

Ron and his family moved back to Niagara to take care of his aging parents.

After some 25 years of experience in broadcasting covering all aspects from on-air personality and production, to station management and sales, the next step in his career was teaching the business. Ron taught Radio and TV Presentation at Niagara College of Applied Arts and Technology in Welland, Ontario. He became a member of the Faculty of The Broadcasting Department.

Although born and raised in Southern Ontario, the Tufts family missed the north and so much that they purchased and owned for a time a cottage in Nipissing’s West Arm. Ron has been a member of the Society of Niagara Anglers and Gourmets (SNAG) since 1996. The members of the small group take turns each year hosting a SNAG Retreat somewhere in the province. Ron continues to join the retreats from time to time as a guest chef. Ron and his wife are hoping to buy a fishing resort for their retirement years.
