Radio Equipment Donated to Cambrian College

Recycling Broadcast Equipment
Telemedia Communications Inc. purchased United Broadcasting Ltd. (CKSO AM and CIGM FM) in the fall of 1986 and in the following years there would be a move to LaSalle Blvd., Sudbury and eventually more corporate ownership changes.  The original radio equipment from Ash Street became surplus.

Former CKSO AM Radio Host and Program Director, Bill Catalano who was then the managing editor of CBC Radio (Sudbury) Northern Ontario News, had convinced the new owners to donate much of the equipment to the journalism program at Cambrian College, Sudbury.  Some equipment was no longer usable and destined for the junk pile!  Other pieces were in great shape but sat in storage at the college as there was no one with the knowledge and ability to assemble and re-wire connections.  What could be used was indeed well used, enhancing the courses with practical, hands-on application.

The former CKSO/CIGM equipment would be used for a limited time however, due to the cancellation of the broadcast portion of the journalism studies.
